Haslab Unicron CITY MODE Concept Art Revealed

The Hero-X Transformers Generations book each year can be expected to be filled with interesting things, and the latest edition seems to be no different. On Twitter, Scotty P. has shared an image of one of the interior pages where the book is covering the Unicron project from this year, where an apparently undeveloped idea is depicted.

At some stage of conceptualizing the Biggest Unicron Ever, a city or base mode was tossed around. The large mass and number of moving parts not withstanding, the idea isn't much better than the typical battle station configuration on other large robots, so it's debatable if this can be considered a loss by not being included in the prototypes we were shown. One visible detail that we might regret the loss of, however, is the cluster of monitor screens through which Unicron observed the death of Optimus Prime in the movie. It can be seen at the far end of Unicron City. Some other details representing interior sections of Unicron can be seen spread around some of the larger parts of the toy-to-be.

Since this never came up during the campaign to get Unicron's production funded, we'd presume the city mode plan was abandoned. However, the fragile nature of the actual transformable prototype would certainly have precluded demonstrating this third mode if indeed it still existed, and likewise it may not have been felt that constructing an additional single-mode prototype to depict this configuration was necessary for the marketing. So maybe there is yet a very remote chance of seeing this as a surprise feature to be revealed later - or discovered by buyers after Unicron starts arriving in another year or so.
