Transformers Revenge of the Fallen Comic Book Adaptation - IDW - Comic

Reading IDW’s comic prequels didn’t leave much hope for Revenge of the Fallen (the movie) or its comic adaptation. The adaptation, however, has given hope for a great sequel. Even if it took total spoilerage to do it.

Like almost all movie adaptations, Revenge of the Fallen has a rushed feel; even without seeing the source material, there were still points that felt as though a scene or dialogue had been compressed, rushed, or skipped. Nevertheless, Simon Furman handles this pandemic handicap of comic adaptations well and it does not detract from the enjoyment of the book.

The art, divided between Jon Davis-Hunt (Issues 1-2, and 4) and Alex Milne (Issue 3) is about as good as can be expected for the Bay-bots, which sadly do not translate well to comic or cartoon form. The graphical representation of the omnipresent human element is sadly lacking in all issues.

The full story is more coherent and focused than the first installment, avoiding the tangential distractions that hampered its predecessor. It is structured well and if the trade is any indication, Transformer fans really have something to look forward to next month. The back story (partially explored in the comic prequel Defiance) is a little silly. However, while rumors of Megatron’s subservience to the Fallen are true, this adaptation offers hope to fans of the Decepticons’ traditional leader. Optimus Prime fans will also be well rewarded by this story.

Don’t mind spoilers? Want to know what to expect from the movie before you get to the theater? Then go snag this baby. It’s a good, quick read; likely more accurate than the junior adaptation, a hell of a lot shorter than the novelization, and a must for the spoiler-happy fan.
