Deluxe Class Rescue Ratchet - Movie - Figure

Deluxe class Rescue Ratchet

For every G1 figure that's been presented in the Bayverse movies, fans always clamor for a G1 repaint. Well, fans win again as even the Deluxe class Ratchet gets a G1 makeover.

Bio

Autobot Ratchet has years of fighting experience, but there are dozens of ways to improvise in a battle that would never occur to him. Luckily, he's teamed up with Highbrow, who can suggest twenty ways to use a laser scalpel to cripple a Decepticon - even one as powerful as The Fallen.

Alt Mode

The only difference with this figure is the paintjob, which is now white. Red stripes adorn the sides, with RESCUE scripted on the quarterpanels. All the reinforcement bars are now unpainted PVC gray.

It's the subtle detail differences that make this figure stand out. Details like the painted light bar that doubles as the hinging. The blue translucent strobes in the grille now also stand out due to the lighter color. In the end, it's really debatable as to which coloration is better in alt mode.

Alt Mode Specs

Length: 4.75in/120.7mm
Wheelbase:2.88in/73.2mm
Width:2.25in/57.2mm
Height:2.25in/57.1mm (3.13in/79.5mm including gun)
Scale Ratio:40:1
Wheels: 4, rotating.
Detailed cockpit:N/A

Transformation

Identical to the first issue Ratchet. Just remember to take your time with the rear panels. They're not as weak as the first, but they're still weak.

Robot Mode

The real difference is in the robot mode. The limbs are a mixture of red and dark gray, which makes the whole figure come alive. Also, the head sculpt has more paint, which does wonders for it's design (which is unchanged).

No other changes are present. The arm mounted gun is still hair-trigger, although this figure seemed to keep the weapon in place a bit better. If you're an absolute G1 purist and just have to have a white Ratchet, it's a very nice repaint. If you're happy (or at least content) with the first issue, save your money as it's not worth a 2nd go.

Articulation

Feet:Ball joint w/pin hinge, unlimited rotation and 180 degree bend
Knees:Pin hinge, 90 degree bend. Pinned above knee for unlimited lower leg rotation
Hips: Ball joint, 75 degree bend and 75 degree spread
Waist:Stationary
Shoulders:Ball joint, unlimited rotation and 90 degree spread. Pinned below shoulder for unlimited arm rotation
Elbows:Pin hinge, 135 degree bend
Hands:Pinned for 90 degree inner bend
Head:Stationary (technical)

The joints are there, but not the range. It's not so much the kibble, but the bulk of the hips that limit motion.

Robot Mode Specs

Width:4in/101.6mm
Depth:2.75in/69.9mm

Verdict

Alt Mode: Limbs still has the "fetal position" look in alt mode
Robot Mode:Nicer paint apps, but original disappointments with the figure are still there.
Overall:Definitely for the G1 folks.

Class:Deluxe

MSRP:$13
