Ruination (G1 Bruticus) - RID - Figures

I know these have been reissued three, four times already now, yet they're still a lot of fun-the Combaticons! I'll review now-

Vehicle modes: Mega Octane (Onslaught), Armorhide (Brawl), Rollbar (Swindle), Movor (Blast Off) and Ro-Tor (Vortex), a truck with a huge gun, a tank, a jeep, a space shuttle and a helicopter. I love these modes, they're fun, solid, look good, play hard and make any battle a long one, I love having Onslaught and Brawl sitting in the shadows, firing away, then Onslaught racing out and smashing into his target before transforming and firing away, great fun. I used to own Brawl, Rollbar and Vortex in their old names when I was younger and loved them then and still love them now. The colours are nice, even though I think Ro-Tor would have been better in his old grey really, the blue doesn't make him look very tough in my opinion. The extra guns are great, Brawl in particular looks great with three guns now. Brawl's turret still rotates as well! Now that is fun, play with this set and you'll see what I mean, they may be old but they're still as fun as ever.

Robot modes: Since they're from the old days before the Transformers you get now, you can't expect them to be pose able and they aren't, well not much anyway. Onslaught has an extra mode, a base mode that is actually a good, fun addition to a battle. They're not very pose able, which doesn't bother me really since I remember them as they used to be and how Transformers didn't need to be pose able to be fun. Brawl's robot mode is a little odd, his arms are still the same as his tank mode, but what do you expect from 1986? Still fun. So what if they're not fancy poses and lights, doesn't mean they're not worth playing with, these guys are more fun than they look!

Ruination (Bruticus): Combine these guys together and you get a not pose able at all, ugly, bulky mess of a robot that's fun and powerful looking. The head and arms move, that's all, he does fall apart a little easily, so be gentle when playing. The weapons of all the group can combine as well and that makes him more powerful and fun than he used to be in the 80s, which is always good. Don't expect him to be as pose able as Railracer, he's not, but imagine him firing all those weapons in one go and pose ability can go fly, he would be quite the opponent if he was used correctly, he should have been in the old '86 movie, now that would have been a battle and a half.
The colours of the group crash together in this mode, looks good, just odd. Oh, getting Onslaught's main gun into the bigger fists of Bruticus is hard, have a strong, flat surface and press down hard to make the gun slot in, I think the mold made the fist a little small. All in all though, this is actually a good, fun toy that, while being the only G1 combiner that's ever re-released (BRING OUT THE OTHER G1 SETS, PLEASE!), is still a good buy, just be sure to buy this RID set though since the weapons combine, the old G1 molds didn't. Recommended, just don't go expecting poses, expect fun!

"Emm...we have to fight that thing?" "Oh great, become an Autobot and be turned into swiss cheese by a giant with combining guns!"
