Sideswipe #7 - G1 - Figure

As I am a fourteen year old, I never owned any of the original TFs except for the ones I inherited from my brother. However, I have been a diehard fan ever since I could pronounce the word "Transformer."

Even though I have never owned the original Sideswipe, I know enough about early TFs to know this has been reproduced true to the original.

BOX: The box is one of the best parts about this package. Sideswipe comes in a sturdy, thick cardboard book-style box. It's very different from the flimsy, cheap boxes you get in the States. It has the Dreamwave drawing of Sideswipe on the front of the cover, and a table of contents on the inside (though everything is in Japanese). The table of contents is for the WORLD CARD NO. 7 attached to the box. The small book, which is detachable, contains a catalog, a poster of Sideswipe and Sunstreaker, character profiles of Sideswipe and Buzzsaw, and summaries of 9 Season Two episodes (again, all in Japanese). On the back of the box are pictures of all the package includes, and pictures of the other TFs in the Takara Reissue Collection (Jazz, Prowl, Skids, Tracks, Smokescreen, Megatron, Prime, Inferno, Starscream).

FIGURE: The car mode is a beautiful model of a 1980's Lamborghini Countach (hence Sideswipe's Japanese name, Lambor). The transformation process is fairly easy. One just pulls the back of the car, flips the diecast metal feet down, pulls the hood of the car down (revealing Sideswipe's painted head), pulls the doors out (revealing the chromed plastic arms), and Voila! Sideswipe. The powerful missile launcher attaches to either the right or left shoulder pole. He also comes with his rifle, not chromed, but white like the original, and three missiles on runners. In robot mode, Sideswipe stands roughly 4.5 inches tall. He is one of the finer looking robots in my collection, which includes many G1 TFs. His poseability is quite limited. It is restricted to the arms and hands. He has shoulder, elbow, and wrist joints, which function fine. However, his legs don't move at all. Very cool looking toy.

BOTTOM LINE: This reissue normally costs $45.00 US, but I got it on sale for $30.00 US, and Sideswipe is worth every penny of it. He is very sturdy, with a good deal of metal in him. He won't break easily. Definitely recommended for any TF collector.
