Prowl #2 - G1 Figure

That’s right, folks! Your favorite reviewer, Prowl1984, is back again, this time with a review of Takara’s G1 Reissue Collection #2 PROWL. This beautiful toy, originally released in 1984, is one of the best Transformers ever made, even among the super-toys born of today’s technology.

SET INCLUDES: PROWL Fairlady Z/280ZX Police Car, Pellet Rifle (chromed), Silver Head-Mounted Rocket Launchers (2), Chrome Rockets (3), Sticker Sheet.

BOX: Prowl’s box, like that of Sideswipe (see earlier review), is very sturdy and hard, made of thick cardboard, unlike the flimsy US boxes. On the front is the very cool Dreamwave illustration of Prowl in all his glory. Above his head is “THE TRANSFORMERS- MORE THAN MEETS THE EYE,” with TRANSFORMERS and the familiar Autobot logo embossed. To the lower right is a large number 2, set in a jewel-shaped, orange box. On the back is a set of photos showing the items the set includes, and a set of photos showing each of the WORLD CARD pages. Below these groups is a box showing the #1 MEISTER reissue, and another box showing the #3 SKIDS reissue and the #4 TRACKS reissue. Once you open the flap, on the inside of the cover is a table of contents (in Japanese) detailing the various sections of the T/F WORLD CARD #2 attached to the box flap where it meets the box. The front page of the World Card sports an original G1 drawing of the battle between Trypticon and Fortress Maximus. On the other side of this page is something in Japanese. Opposite this a detailed character profile of Prowl, with very nice illustrations of him in robot and car mode, and a pair of screenshots of him from the original Season 1 episodes. The backside of the character profile shows photos of the actual toy Prowl, in car and robot mode. Below this are a shot of his weapons and parts, and a detail of his face and head. There is also a history of the various releases of Prowl throughout the world. After Prowl’s character profile is one of Megatron, following the same format as Prowl’s. Then comes a summary guide of nine Season 2 episodes, from “The Heavy Metal War” to “Dinobot Island Part 2.” The Destron catalog comes next, with a checklist and pictures of Soundwave, Megatron, Rumble, Frenzy, Ravage, and Lazerbeak. On the other side are pictures and a checklist of Reflector, Starsceam, Skywarp, and Thundercracker. This catalog folds out into a small poster of a Dreamwave illustration depicting most of the main Autobots (this is the now-famous Pat Lee drawing).

FIGURE: CAR MODE: Before his transformation into a robot, Prowl is a Nissan Fairlady Z police car, with red flashers on top and “POLICE” stickers on the doors. An Autobot rub symbol and a star-in-shield sticker are on his hood. A very sleek and sporty-looking car. ROBOT MODE: To transform him, one pulls the back of the car away (it separates behind the doors), pulls the arms out from under his hood (carefully), pulls the doors away from the body, folds the hood down (revealing his head), lifts the flap on his belt up, turns the back of the car around, pushes the flap down, folds the back down, and pulls the two halves of the back apart, creating his feet. Now you can fit the launchers into the slots on both sides of his head, put his rifle in either of his hands, and Prowl is ready for action. He is a very cool-looking robot, with those large missile launchers making an intimidating presence. He is not very flexible, except for his arms, which have moving shoulders and elbows, and rotating wrists. My favorite robot.

BOTTOM LINE: If you consider yourself a Transformer fan, and you don’t have a G1 Prowl already, or even if you do, buy him today. He can be cheap or expensive, depending on where you purchase him. Below is a link to a site where you can get him for $30.00 USD. Prowl Rules!!!
