Up until this past July, I'd kept this guy in his packaging. But then I decided that since I wasn't ever going to sell him, it was a crime to keep him imprisoned.
Beast Mode
This metallic monkey stands around 13 cm(5") and has an armspan of 26 cm(10.2"). A recolour of Transmetal Optimus Primal, Apelinq's main colours are maroon and greenish silver, with assorted black parts and vac metal silver for the head, chest, and feet. His eyes are yellow and his teeth are minty fresh green. A bit garish IMO, but no more so than Optimus Primal's colour scheme. Like most large primates, Apelinq looks quite capable of kicking serious ass. His arms and chest are positively massive, and his snarly expression adds to his overall Badassitude. He is articulated at the shoulders, upper arms, elbows, waist, and hips. He comes with two black spiked clubs for pounding Vehicons into scrap metal.
Apelinq's neatest feature in this mode is his digiboard, which unfolds from the backs of his legs. There are two tiny wheels located on th e bottom of the digiboard, however it doesn't roll too well at all. Everybody goin' surfin', surfin' AOL!
Transformation
Apelinq's transformation is pretty straightforward. His robot head flips out from his chest cavity and the monkey head folds in. His forearms split open to switch around his fists, his lower torso rotates around, his backpack flips up and over, and his digiboard becomes his shins and feet.
Robot Mode
As a robot, Apelinq stands about 17 cm(6.7") tall. Most of the
silver vac metal is now concealed, save for his knee pads. His robot chest is even more muscular than his beast mode one, so much so that Ah-nold would be envious. It's also a nicer colour; maroon with a splash of green. His head is green and maroon, with a black face, yellow eyes, and silver teeth. In keeping with Transmetal design philosophy, Apelinq has lots of shaggy fur on his head, fists, and along the outskirts of his chest.
In robot mode, Apelinq has joints at the head, shoulders, arms, waist, hips, knees, and ankles. His thruster detaches to become a bulbous sort of laser gun. It's spring-loaded and can fire Apelinq's maces, but its range is pretty pathetic. Far more imposing is his built-in gun platform. By swinging Apelinq's backpack over his head to rest against his chest, the maces act as twin laser cannons, blasting away at his foes.
Overall, Suspsy Sez
As far as Botcon exclusives go, this is one of the neater ones. Great articulation, satisfactory colour scheme, and nice weaponry. Like all exclusives though, Apelinq's pretty pricey, and will usually sell for no less than $50. Still, it's always nice to have a rare toy in one's collection.
