SixWing - Micromaster - Figure

Third in a series of Micromaster Combiner reissues, SixWing returns. This time, the all aircraft team are Decepticons, rather than Autobots. It's a nice little change that helps bring reinforcements to the outnumbered Decepticon cause. Originally released in Japan around 1992 for their line called Transformers: Operation Combination, the Autobot SixWing fought against Battle Gaea with his Autobot brethren.

Each SixWing component is packaged in the identical boxes similar to those the Takara SCFs are packaged in. Thankfully, they aren't random like the SCFs as there is a small hole in the front of the box with a number 1 through 6 showing through. There is a random element thrown into the mix as two of the twelve boxes in a case are white, evil Autobot variants. And while normally I like getting the rare variations, I'm just thankful to have a complete set of the regular SixWing.

In addition to the individual toys, included in the box is a component to help assemble SixWing along with a small brochure featuring the instructions and bio for that individual toy along with a short story of SixWing as he gains his Berserker mode.

Chaingun
First up is the leader of the group, Chaingun. His alt mode is a combat helicopter. He is mostly a dark green with yellow-orange painted windows, light blue-green propeller, black wheels, and a light gray underside. The prop doesn't spin, but can be positioned and removed. To transform, flip the cockpit forward and down and flip the tail up and back. In his robot mode, Chaingun can rotate at the shoulders, hips, and knees, though the legs are stuck together. There is additional light gray in this form along with his blue-painted optic visor.

Missile Run
SixWing's number two bot is Missile Run, who transforms into a sonic-speed bomber and features prominently in the SixWing story. His bomber mode is mostly black with red highlights and silver-painted windows. A rather large Decepticon insignia takes up most of the middle of this form as he forms the chest plate of the SixWing robot. Some white and blue-green are visible as well. To transform into robot mode, flip the rear section back and down, swing the nose up and back and fold the wings back. Missile Run is much more colorful in robot mode with white arms, blue-green upper legs and a light-gray and purple torso. As with Chaingun, he rotates at the shoulders, hips, and knees. He doesn't stand too well, despite the instructions' suggestion that you position the legs back at the hips and forward at the knees.

Raker
The space shuttle of the group, Raker is mostly white with black highlights. Decepticon sigils adorn his wings. To transform into robot mode, fold up the wings and swing the rear engine section back and down, then flip the cockpit down. Raker is articulated at the shoulders, hips, and knees though the cockpit gets in the way of his hip joints. He is still mostly white with more black coming through in his upper legs. His face and crest are painted silver, which help bring out his almost Ratchet-like visage.

Supersonic
Flying high and fast is Supersonic who transforms into a supersonic passenger jet. Like Raker, he is mostly white except he has light purple and pink-like highlights in addition to his blue-painted windows. Transformation is identical to Raker's: fold up the wings and swing the rear engine section back and down, then flip the cockpit down. The tallest of the group, Supersonic shares the same articulation as the others. In addition to more black and pink showing up in robot mode, robot mode reveals Supersonic's blue-painted face.

Flanker
The green jet of the group, Flanker's highlights include a blue canopy along with some black and light gray. To transform, bring the cockpit section down and then rotate back up and flip the nosecone and wings back. In robot mode, Flanker has the same articulation as the others, but looks unfinished somewhat in that his rear engine and tail assembly is sticking up past his head. His torso and upper legs are black with gray highlights and arms. The remainder of his body remains the same green from his jet mode.

Falcon
Lastly, Falcon is a light gray fighter jet with pink highlights and a blue-painted cockpit. His transform is identical to Flanker's: bring the cockpit section down and then rotate back up and flip the nosecone and wings back. In robot mode, Falcon has the same articulation as the others. He doesn't look nearly as bad as Flanker since there is less jet kibble atop his head. His torso is mostly a blue-green with red and silver highlights. His arms and upper legs are pink.

SixWing Jet
The parts that combine the individuals into SixWing can also be used to form a jet that the Micromasters can ride in. Attach the torso and upper legs together, slide the rifle in-between the upper legs, push the fists into the pegs on the sides of the torso and attach the feet to the fists. Place the robot head onto the top of the torso with the head facing back. There is a small peg in the center of the torso for you to stand any of the individual robots. Raker and Supersonic don't stay though since their foot pegs are larger.

Gettai! SixWing!
First off, disassemble the fists, feet and rifle from the SixWing jet. Next, from their jet modes, flip back the front most section of Falcon and Flanker's noses and fold back Flanker's right wing and Falcon's left wing. Attach them to the foot components at the engines and the upper legs at their front-most sections. From Raker and Supersonic's robot modes, rotate their lower legs back ninety degrees and attach the fists they came with to the tops of their heads. Attach Supersonic to the left shoulder and Raker to the right, though they can interchange, their fists don't. With Chaingun in robot mode, bend him 90 degrees at the hips and knees and attach him to the peg on SixWing's back. With Missile Run in robot mode, bend him ninety degrees at the hips and attach him to the center of SixWing's torso then fold the cockpit and wings down.

SixWing
SixWing is an impressive conglomeration of the individual robots. He is both fearsome in appearance as well as exuding power. The addition of purple, dark blue and black to the individual components makes it hard for me to envision SixWing as anything but a Decepticon. Due to the nature of his design, he only has shoulder articulation, which allow for some nice poses. He is simply an amazing looking robot.

Overall
If you get the chance to pick up SixWing, I highly recommend it especially if you can't find or afford the original version. Each component is a treat and the combined jet and robot forms are also wonderful.
