Battle Squad Micromasters - G1 - Figures

Recently I got in the Micromaster Battle Suqad which I bought trough eBay. Since I thougt it would be nice to write a review again, here it is. It is a short one without my own pictures but it is better than nothing right? ;-)

The Micromasters were among the last Transformers and apart from being a little fragile (and small compared to the larger Transformers) the basic concept was rather cool. I liked the bases they came with. In the second year Micromasters were combiners, meaning that 2 Transformers made up one vehicle.

Several were released among which 4 Squads of each 6 Transformers. This Battle Squad was one of those 4 and a pretty neat one at that. Each member can attach to a different one to create a new vehicle. That combined with the fact that a Suqad contains 6 Tranformers offer a lot of play value.

As with all Squads, the 6 members share their colors. Gray, dark purple, light purple (which is my favorite color along with black) and black are used.

The first vehicle is a gray truck with a large purple gun. At first it made me think back of a really old pc game (think Alley Cat) in which certain screens were blue/purple. The vehicle looks nice but its lenght makes it look a bit off. But that is the case with a lot of these Combiners. The gun can move up and down.

The vehicle splits up into Direct-Hit and Power Punch. Direct-Hit is a decent figure whose only problem is the fact that his arms are "om top of his shoulders" which makes him look weird. He has a cool face with a mouthplate that makes him look a bit creepy. His arms and legs move (in once piece). The lower legs are 2 halves. His chest is dark purple and upper legs are light purple. (All the upper legs in this set are that color though). Direct-Hits' face is orange.

His partner, Power Punch does not have any dark purple so he is less "colorful" than his partner. (His face is yellow). But the loss of one color is not my problem. Because of the gun, his lower legs are one solid piece. All Micromaster legs are unable to move seprately but in Power Punch's case the lower legs or feet to be accurate cannot even move a bit.

But that is a small problem as he does have a large gun. He also looks very powerful with a face that has a visor and mouth plate that gives him (in my opinion) a brute appereance.

The second vehicle is made up of Melt Down and Halftrack. This is one of my favorites from this set. The vehicle is dark purple. The aft section (Halftrack) has flak cannons mounted on it. Their base is grey while the cannons self are red. The cannons move up and down and they also turn.

But that is not why I like this vehicle so much. Even seperated the two look cool and not just one half of a larger vehicle. With a slight reculpting they could easily make single Micromasters. Very, very cool.

In Robot mode Melt Down has a grey body and his face is orange. Like pretty much all Micromasters his arms move and legs move in one piece. Like Power Punch, his face is made up of a visor and mouth plate.

Halftrack has a black body and yellow face. He does have a mouth which makes him the only one on the team to have one. He is neat little figure.

The last vehicle is the coolest one, a black jet. (Probably a Blackbird.) There is only a bit of purple on it because that part is made up by Fireshots legs. The cockpit windows are gold. A really cool mode.

Fireshot is an unusual Micromaster. Because of the fact that he forms the nose section of a sleek jet, he barely has any kibble. Just the nose cone and the wheels. So this has got to be the sleekest Micromaster ever.

His head features a nice fin which greatly enhances his sleek look. His face is rather creepy which suits him perfectly. His head is gray while the face is red. The main body is dark purple. The rest (except for the upper legs) is black. His legs move but the feet are one piece. The lower arms move as well. Note: I really like the name Fireshot.

His partner Vanguish is almost as cool but not quite. He has a very "knightesque" face making him look like a medieval Knight. Once again a creepy face. His arms and legs move and his chest is gray while the arms are dark purple.

In closing, this is a very neat set. Sadly with all Micromasters their size limits their play value a bit. And Fireshot's lower arms can fall off easily if you are not careful. But if you like Micromasters, you will probably love this 6-pack.
