Sideways - Cybertron - Figure

After being absent in Energon, Sideways makes his anticipated return in Cybertron. Still a double agent (supposedly for Unicron), Sideways is still determined to deter both Autobot and Decepticon from their primary missions while trying to get both sides to decimate one another.

Sideways' alt form is a space jet... and what a jet! There's colors everywhere, and they all seem to blend nicely with the overall motif. There is lots of exposed circuitry built into his mold which adds to the aura of the figure. The only disappointing factor is when you look at him straight back, as his fists and legs are clearly exposed in a gaping cavity. Oh well, guess it's hard to be perfect.

Like his Armada figure, Sideways has the ability to change factions at will. With his Cyber Key out of the slot, he wears the Autobot insignia. However, when you stick in the Cyber Key, it changes to a Decepticon insignia. I would have liked it if you could change his faction without having to use the key, but beggers can't be choosers.

Speaking of the key, it is interesting that the supposed harbringer of Unicron would use a Decepticon Cyber Key. It's a very wicked looking key, with spiks all around. To activate the Cyber Key function, lift the Key slot up then back, so the back of the ship levitates. When the key is inserted in this fashion, 4 energon spikes protrude from the exposed canopy. This is a pretty cool effect for the ship. If you leave the canopy down, the insignia will still change when the key is inserted, but the blades won't be exposed. Transforming him isn't too hard after the first time, but there are alot of twists and turns to it.

His robot mode is another great look. I love the head, which looks like a mask. The orange piping gives it a real sinister effect. You can transform his wings in such a fashion that they can lay besides his legs, or place each wing on each peghole of his hand to form a wingblade. He's a sturdy unit, and is a great poser. The ball joints for his hips give him kind of a scrawny look, but it really adds to the effect of the robotic form.

The Cyber Key has the same function in Robot mode. Combined with his wingblade, this bot can do some major damage. Just hope he's on your side. This figure is definitely worth the hype!
