Snarl - Cybertron - Figure

The name Snarl heralds back to the G1 days when it was originally used for one of the Dinobots. The name has surfaced infrequently since, but it has always been used for a beast. Cybertron continues that trend. Snarl is a wolf-bot from the Jungle Planet who, along with Backstop, lead the rebel resistance there against Scourge.

Snarl's wolf mode is classic beastbot. There's an overall good mixture of mechanics and fur to help the image. The tail houses a launchable missile. The right-rear leg has a holster for the Cyber Key. The left-rear leg wears the Autobot faction. There's joints in all the right places, so posing him in alt mode is very much possible.

Place the Cyber Key behind his head and his jaws open exposing fangs. There are better functions out there, but it does go with the alt mode pretty well. Unfortunately, I don't have a Cyber Key photo as the key would not stay in place. I'm hoping this is an isolated problem. When I see another figure, I'll make an exchange and find out. Transforming him will take a time or two to perfect, but it's not difficult by any stretch.

I'm mixed about his robot mode. Overall, it looks pretty good. However, the wolf head as a right hand is one of the reasons I couldn't take to Beast Wars. I really don't care for assymetrical bots. His tail forms his laser, but it would not stay steady when placed in his left hand. The peg on his hand was slightly too wide. Again, I'm hoping this is an early production problem. With the wolf's head on the right side, it can create some balance issues. His joints also seem to be naturally loose, especially the feet. It might take a few times to strike a decent pose.

The Cyber Key function works the same way in robot mode. Oddly enough, I could manage to keep the key in place in robot mode, but not alt mode. Again, this has a decent effect, but I think there's better functions out there. Overall, I like this figure, but the production problems weakened it a bit for me. At least... I hope they're just production problems.
