Minicon VS #3 Set - Cybertron - Figures

Since these figures are essentially repaints of Armada minicons, I will cut right to the chase on this review. Instead of being packaged in a 3pk as minicons normally are, these figures come packaged as a VS set pitting one against the other. Following is a breakdown of the new names and related factions to which the belong:

Decepticons

Jetstorm (Armada) = Sunstorm (Cybertron) : Jet, packaged w/Checkpoint

Sonar (Armada) = Ramjet (Cybertron) : Shuttle, packaged w/Scythe

Runway (Armada) = Thrust (Cybertron) : Supersonic jet, packaged w/Anti-Blaze

Autobots

Firebot (Armada) = Anti-Blaze (Cybertron) : Fire truck, packaged w/Thrust

Prowl (Armada) = Checkpoint (Cybertron) : Squad car, packaged w/Sunstorm

Makeshift (Armada) = Scythe (Cybertron) : Dualprop aircraft, packaged w/Ramjet

For the 2nd series, there have some new names as well as familiar ones. As with the 1st set, there isn't anything new to these figures from Armada besides a new paint job. Thrust is a very nice color homage to the G1 namesake, as is Ramjet. Sunstorm has the yellow associated with that namesake as well. The three jets are known as the Sky Terror team. The Cybertron SWAT team (Anti-Blaze, Scythe & Checkpoint) sport colors you work expect a SWAT vehicle to employ. Both teams employ their Armada traits. The SWAT team have a triple-changing feature where they can form weapons that can be attached to a larger Transformer's minicon port. The Terror team can combine to form the Star Saber... or whatever it is now called.

As with the 1st set, each team now belongs to a faction and has insignias to boot. The Cybertron SWAT team wears Autobot insignias, while the Sky Terror team wears Decepticon insignias. That pretty much sums up the changes. Their transformations and robot modes are identical to their Armada counterparts... and subsequently share the balancing and posing issues. The recolors used for this VS set is the best I've seen yet, and really bring out a new side to these bots. Even if you have the first 3 rendition of the jets, this is worth plunking down more money for.

Alt Mode Score: 5 - Great alt modes, new colors do wonders for them

Robot Mode Score: 5 - Both have decent robot modes, but triple-changing option give it more playability

Final Score: 5 - Definitely worth putting in the collection
