Dropkick - Movie - Figure

It seems deluxes are (barely) getting easier to come back. The latest wave, consisting of Payload & Longarm, have been seen with more regularity. At least, where I am. Now, another figure is showing at stores. Dropkick is a Decepticon that regrets leaving Cybertron to be Megatron's errand boy.

Alt Mode

Dropkick takes the disguise of a "dubbed" pickup, closely resembling a 2000-2002 Chevrolet Silverado. The paint job is gray, with purple decals. The decal makes up the Decepticon insignia on his hood, which stretches to the cab roof. It's kinda silly how the truck is all dubbed out, yet seems to use stock looking rims. Seems kind of off. The details are nicely done, though. The turn signals are ambered, the headlights are clear, and you can make out the fuel filler door.

The tailgate is spring loaded and can be lowered. Also, the tonneau cover is removable and serves a purpose in his Robot mode. Surprisingly, underneath the tonneau is a pretty accurate looking bed. This is perhaps one of the best pickup modes seen in the TF lineup, with Alternators Prime perhaps taking higher grade.

Transformation is very unique, yet simple to accomplish. There are 2 automorph gimmicks. When the front fenders are pulled up, the doors automatically swing full open. Towards the end of the transformation process, when the cab roof is flipped back, the robot head automatically pops up.

Robot Mode

It's been amazing how night and day some of these figures are. The non-movie figures especially surprise me some. Dropkick has one of the best robot modes of any of the figures. The bio-organic look works well here. The only new colors come up in the head sculpt, which features some teal and red eye piping. The head sculpt, in my opinion, is one of the best of this line.

Points of articulation are as follows. Feet: Pin hinge, 135 degree rotation. Knees: 7pt pseudo-ratchet, 120 degree bend. Hips: Ball joint, 90 degree spread and 135 degree rotation. Shoulders: Ball joint, 90 degree wingspan and 135 degree rotation. Elbows: pin hinge, 150 degree rotation. Head: Ball joint, unlimited rotation. Attack of the chicken knees continues on this figure, albeit a little worse here. The elbows don't straighten out completely, which is a minor complaint. While decently poseable, there is no thigh or forearm twist available so it can limit your look.

The tonneau cover mentioned earlier becomes a capture claw. The claw slides out to position, and the knob opens and closes the jaws. This is a neat feature, except the claw doesn't lock in the "out" position at all. With the claws closed, it can retreat if gravity is a factor. Also to note are the double-barrelled laser cannons on each arm. This is easily the best Decepticon to admire, especially in robot mode. While not without faults, it is a unique take and one that is definitely worth a hunt.
