ok all! Time for a patented Starscreamer review...
*Note will get pix up after I get home from work today*
Well picked up the wondertwins from Walmart today. I will admit I had some hesitation as I slid my card through and paid for them. They are at the voyager price.
Inside you have the two brothers and a comic book. Now I will tell you the comic was pretty good! A perfect origin tail, an appearance of Perceptor and Wheeljack.
One thing I did notice is that two of Ultra Magnus' guards were Prowl protoforms...so BB, Cliff Jumper and Wasp aren't the only twins running around.
For the comic, I give it full marks.
Now to the figures...
Coloring is nice, Jetsorm is very much like his Beast Machines name sake with the blue, cyan, and gold. Nice head design with a smirk and visor. Jetfire is more like Sunstorm with the orange and brown and grey. Light piping on his head gives him a kind of Human Torch look, goofy grin, and well..I'm not partial to the goggles hard molded, but gives him personality.
Aside from the heads and coloring they are perfect copies. A LOT of posing options but...well...these guys just feel so generic. Only word for it. Basic robots. No kibble save the plastic "flames" and a little on the back. The hands are molded from the jet nosecones but they rotate so you have true hands.
Transforming to the jet forms wasn't quite as simple as I thought which was nice. But again the final result is...well kid of jets. These guys storywise are to be prototypes and it shows. They really need more then just wings and a nose cone. While I had them both in jet form I did the "combined mode"...wow THAT was a joke. They just attach belly to belly...and umm that is it. I'm sure in the cartoon they'll have some super anime energy around them flying in that mode, but as a figure it is just "blah". I think they should have gone with a "Dreadwing" or Robotech Alpha/Beta direction with this..
Now the Safegaurd robot mode I will say isn't that half bad. Transformation was just opening additional joints, flipping out a different head and basic a attachment...but the final result is better than the individual bots. First and formost he does have HANDS. Hard molded, yes, so no weapon holding, but they are there. He has proper perportions and not bad on the posing. He isn't exactly Railracer from RID or a Gaogaigar combiner, but for what he is...not bad. I'll keep them on my display shelf in that form.
Bottom line...as individual bots kind of meh...as jets, also meh...combined, kinda cool. This isn't the Armada Sideswipe of the line, but not worth the price tag though. If they go on clearance pick em up. If they do a repaint, it may help slightly...but only just...
I give the total 7 stars..but only for the Combined robot mode.
For the bots themselves...5
